Dr. Chelsea Stewart, a 2016 graduate of Iowa State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and a non-stop AASV member on account of becoming a member as a scholar in 2013, received the newly set up AASV Member Student Debt Relief Scholarship in Orlando, Fla., on March 11.
The reason for this new $5,000 scholarship is to assist in relieving the student debt of recent veterinary graduates engaged in swine exercise who nevertheless have a good-sized debt burden. Qualified applicants need to have been engaged in a private exercise with at least 50% of their time committed to swine, imparting on-farmcarer at once to impartial pork producers.
After commencement, Stewart joined the Sheldon Veterinary Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa. The new scholarship was initiated with a beneficiant $110,000 contribution to the Foundation using the Conrad Schmidt and Family Endowment. Dr. Schmidt, a constitutional member of AASV, defined, “Together, Judy and I observed that many new DVM graduates interested in swine medicine begin their professional life with heavy academic debt. As a long-time AASV members and animal industry supporters, it became our choice to help AASV contributors who have committed their professional talents to swine herd health and manufacturing. We wish that this endowment will grow over time to assist in decreasing the instructional debt load of AASV individuals as they start their professional trips.”
When asked to remark approximately receiving the scholarship, Stewart answered, “I am notably honored to have acquired this inaugural scholar debt comfort scholarship. The idea of assisting new graduates who are actively paying off their debt burden is a tremendous idea, and I am so thankful to have been the recipient of this scholarship.”
